Big Brother Nicholas
Ah, Nicky is such a big brother to Dexter. He encourages him, he corrals him, he’s even blown his nose for him. It is so cute to see that I thought I would share some stories about Nicky.
This morning, Nicholas woke first. He woke up before Joel and I and thus got dumped in our bed to watch Thomas on the computer with his dad, while I got ready first. By the time we got downstairs, my stomach was growling. I fixed Nicky his meal and was about to pour my cereal with Dexter, Mr. Grumpy Pants, woke up. Dumped Dexter on the potty to watch Thomas, went to check on Nicky, and found him all smiles. He had finished his cereal and had the gallon jug of milk in his hand with the cap off. Did I forget to mention the smile was a bit on the impish side? Anyway, he just wanted to know where Dexter was and took off hunting for him. He found him and decided to sit down and watch Thomas too. Afterwards, it was time for Dexter to eat breakfast and hopefully improve his blood sugar level. Dexter had been crying and had used my shoulder as a tissue for his nose. ”Dexter, that’s not nice.” I said as I put him in his chair for breakfast. Nicholas asked me what was wrong and I mentioned that Dexter blew his nose on my shirt. Nicky ran to the Kleenex box, grabbed a tissue, ran back to Dexter, held the tissue to his nose and told Dexter to blow. Dexter complied with the request. Nic then handed me the used tissue and said, ”Mom, maybe after Dexter eats breakfast, I can play with him?” Then he turned to Dexter, “Dexter, maybe after you done, you play with me?” Dexter said yes and Nicholas happily bounded away.
Later that morning, after we had visited Costco with Malina, we headed to the post office to send a package to my cousin Gina. On our way into the post office, a van was parked with a dog looking out the window. ”Nicholas, look at the doggie in the van.” Nicky looked the wrong way. After stating what I thought was obvious for the 4th time, I stuck my hand on Nicky’s head and turned him to the left so that he could finally see the dog. Dexter wanted to know what we were looking at but not wanting to go through that whole routine again, I told Dexter we would show him on the way out. Nicholas remembered this. As soon as we were finished and back outside, he ushered Dexter to that van, grabbed Dexter’s head with his hands, and guided Dex’s head, the same way I had his head.
The other night in the bath, I had finally convinced Dexter to lay down and I would not let his head sink into the water. Dexter like this game so much, he did it 6 more times, on the third round, Nicholas was repeating after me and holding Dexter’s head, “Just relax your head, Dexter. I won’t let go of your head.”
Last night, they both ran around chasing and tickling each other. They took turns holding out their fingers and saying “cut the pickle, tickle, tickle” over and over again.
I know this isn’t much, but this is just a brief gimps of what I see on a daily basis and can remember to share. I’ll try to get Joel to upload some new pictures and video clips too.
