Which boy gets the keys first?

    Monday, May 16th, 2011 @ 10:16 pm | Uncategorized

Sorry for the prolonged silence once again, but once we’ve selected a new au pair, what really is our incentive to keep this blog updated?  Now if I could find a good way to print it for posterity as the boys’ baby books, that’d be something.  At the moment, I’m not sure how to make that happen.  Still, life intervened, and we got a bit busy, but we’re fighting back and *almost* have a few minutes to sit at the computer.  I don’t have time for a full update on our adventures, or toils, but at least I have something to toss to crowd. Perhaps it can give you a clue as to why we flaked out this last week and are, yet again, behind on everything.

Anyway, one motif in our experience in parenting is how absolutely different our children are. Nobody can tell them apart unless they’ve been around them for 10 minutes, and still some people ask (seriously, another parent from the preschool came to ask me which boy was in which picture – a parent who has see the boys twice a week for 8 months, and all the shots were of the boys outside in their coats, and they were always wearing the same coat, and unlike some evil twin parents I know THE COATS WEREN’T THE SAME), but still, anyone who knows them knows that Dexter and Nicholas are about alike as oil and Pixar. One particularly strong element of this is Dexter’s sensory challenges. He gets really overwhelmed by sights and sounds, but you can’d bump and jostle him enough. And of course, being the worries that we are, this has us more than a little concerned about driver’s ed. Witness the full splendor of Dexter’s mad-action driving skills:

And understand that every single time we “CRASHED” he’d be knocked free from the wheel, scream with laughter, and then do it again.

And now, as a study in contrast, I give you Nicholas:

Oh wait, Nic was totally sedate in that one.  Let me show you wild and crazy Nicholas:

And I ask, which one do you think we’ll be trusting with the keys to the minivan first?
