Almost ready
We’re hurriedly hiding eggs, and freaking out about the sheer mass of candy now in our home. I didn’t think it was too bad, until I noticed that we had two unopened Easter Bunny Pez Despensers, I believe from last year. The boys haven’t worked through their Halloween candy, let alone the Christmas candy. Our ever-helpful Vintage Au Pair, Laura, doubled up on the chocolate. I’m almost tempted to let them eat nothing but chocolate for a day. Sure, they’ll get sick, but it’ll get it out of the house all in one go, and maybe, just maybe, it’ll make them wait a few days before asking for another treat. No, no it won’t. Oh well.
Anyway, Katie’s surviving, if only barely. She seemed really good this morning, but fell apart this afternoon. The bleeding started again, meaning that she was in severe pain, and also that she was very nauseous (too much blood in the stomach). She called in to her doctor Friday morning asking for advice since she was seeing some of the bright red blood that she wasn’t supposed to see. They didn’t respond. She went to the walk-in clinic yesterday, and found out that her rapidly diminishing abilitiy to pee was due to 3 medicines all working together to put in a request for a catheter. So there goes the anti-nausea meds. Then today when the pain became unbearable and the bleeding started again we went in to the walk-in clinic. Of course by the time the Doctor came in the bleeding had stopped and the nausea had faded. By the time we got home it was back. She can only take Tylenol at this point, as every other pain killer either gives her a nasty allergic reaction, or thins the blood. If I were her I’d be seriously tempted to ask for medicinal Marijuana. I had a slightly more significant version of the same surgery 4 years ago, but I didn’t have it nearly as bad as Katie is. She really does get the worst luck with medical problems. Regardless, she’s hanging in there. Hopefully tomorrow the bleeding will have stopped. Regardless, we’re having to skip the Easter Service at church (and the egg hunt afterward). I’ve hidden eggs all over the house. Actually, we’ve done 5 or 6 practice hunts, and the boys are getting really, really good, so I’ve had to step up my game. There are something like 60 eggs hidden. I’m guessing it’ll take them 3 1/2 minutes to find them all. Anyway want to take up the bet?
Also, we should say congratulations to Katie’s cousin Greg and new-cousin Nicole, who were married today up in Vancouver. She’d been hoping to go, before the surgery shut down those plans. It was easily the best day we’ve had all year today, so at least they had the right weather to welcome a marriage in style.
Okay, tomorrow there’ll be cute pictures and video clips of boys running all over the house hunting for eggs, and presumably with chocolate smeared from belly button to hair line. Here’s to hoping. Goodnight!
