So remember, you can look into enrolling them in the school district preschool as a "typical". "E" has taken a lot from it and has not picked up any "bad" habits. It is very reasonable cost wise as I understand. "E" is learning a ton. You could also look at Mukilteo Academy. Not too far from Boeing so maybe you could take them to school in the mornings. It is expensive, but the education is top notch and worth every cent. I think the choice to work or stay at home is a tough one. There is no "perfect" answer... the best answer is what works for YOUR family. From someone who has stayed at home for a long time, it can be isolating if you allow it to be. I refuse to let it be for me. We fill our time with storytime, Little Gym, playdates, craft projects, and just hanging out. Good luck with the decisions you have ahead. No matter what you decide to do, as long as those boys know that you love them (which they do), that is the most important. I think having an Au Pair is an experience you get to give the boys that not many families can. I think it is an amazing experience. You have opened your home to even more love and those boys will now have "family" all over the world. Good Luck and keep in touch.

I am so sorry to hear about Carter. I sure hope his memory keeps returning and he finds new progress day by day. Strokes can be so wicked--unbelivable what can change in a matter of seconds. I really like what Kim suggested. Finding the right match for the boys and their personalities so they will be comfortable and intrigued with learning is a wonderful win. If they feel empowered and experience success, they will flourish. Ultimately, their values will be a blend from so many sources, and then formulate within themselves. Their success will come from an environment that nurtures their own sparks. I really think where that actually comes from is secondary. Let their reactions guide you.

I'm not a parent, so any opinion I may have on staying at home with your kids is essentially meaningless.

On the other hand, as a non-Christian person who went to a Christian school for 15 years, I can say with absolute certainty that overall quality of education is far more important than the quantity of religious education. If it's the best school, I'd strongly urge you/Joel not to rule it out just because it's a church school.
