You can do a co-op preschool. They are GREAT. When they are in a 2s class they are with kids only their age and it is two hours twice a week. The au pair would have to "work" in the classroom once a week (maybe both days because you would have two in the co-op). On average there are 18 kids in the class. They go on field trips, do art projects, circle/music time, etc. You can find them through the community colleges. Both my boys went to West Edmonds (right off the Mountlake Terrace exit) and Teacher Connie is GREAT. It is thru Edmonds Community College. Great group. If you want more of "experiences" just shoot me an email. I do think the au pair is the best route, but then again, I chose to be a stay at home mom. I think I am able to open my children up to more experiences by going to the zoo all the time or the seattle symphony kids concerts, etc. You don't get that in a daycare setting, but you could with an au pair. You would also know that their hands ARE being washed and their noses wiped right away (if that is important to you). We do have friends with kids in the Boeing childcare and they have liked it.

As a non child owning person my opinion can be taken with a big pinch of salt, but from my friends who have children and have put them in child care as young as two, they do not regret it. There will always be a plus and a minus to every choice. My advice try it if they or you don't like it you can get an Au pair later. Whatever the experience is , it's an experience Nic and Dex will grow and learn from it. Believe in yourselves you are doing a great job with them. :-)
